Islandia-based CA Inc. has extended its partnership with a California data storage company "to develop management solutions for public and private cloud environments," CA said Tuesday.

In the renewed partnership with NetApp of Sunnyvale, Calif., the companies will continue "integrating CA's virtualization, automation and service assurance offerings with NetApp's storage management solutions," a CA news release said.

"The unified solutions will further help customers drive operational efficiencies through improved business agility, productivity and service quality, while also helping to lower costs and reduce risks that are associated with virtualization and cloud-based infrastructures."

Cloud computing refers to flexible contracts allowing companies to use, as needed, variable amounts - at variable costs - of data storage, software and other resources over the Internet. It can help reduce overall costs for software and hardware.
