Calorie counts essential on menus

I'm writing regarding the editorial "Hungry eyes go blind on nutrition" [Jan. 18].
Living in a country infamous for its overweight population is embarrassing. The government should take any steps it can to try and lower the obesity rate. I believe that it is a good idea to pass legislation that would force restaurants to list health facts on their menus.
I cannot tell you how many times I have changed my meal choice because there were other selections less likely to lead me to an early grave. People who are opposed to this law need to face the fact that America's growing population (literally) is a big problem that can only be stopped if we work together. The first step toward a healthier public is a more knowledgeable one.
