They came to heal. To vent. To remember.

Several dozen people attended a vigil on Bald Hill on Friday night to mourn for the four people slain at a Medford drugstore.

They stood in a parking lot next to the Brookhaven Amphitheater under a light drizzle and sought comfort in one another's presence.

"We're here ... to honor the victims of the Medford massacre," said Legis. Jack Eddington (I-Medford). "Medford will never be the same -- we've been hurt deeply."

Deanna Reynolds, 15, of Bellport, a sophomore, fought the wind to light candles with her friends in their friend Jennifer Mejia's memory.

"The candle -- it makes us feel that she's with us. The light reminds us of her," Deanna said. "She was a very bright person."

Town Supervisor Mark Lesko, a former federal prosecutor, said "at the end of the day, justice will be done" for Sunday's slayings.

"Why would someone do something so senseless? Why would someone do something so depraved?" he said.

The vigil was organized by Glenn Diener, a pastor in Central Islip.
