Cat rescued from subway tracks, delayed about 100 trains

A mischievous cat escaped from a pet carrier at a Manhattan subway station and delayed about 100 trains when it jumped onto the tracks during the afternoon rush hour Wednesday, authorities and transit sources said.

A passenger alerted an uptown E train motorman about 5:20 p.m. that she had been trying to clean the carrier when the feline leaped onto the roadbed at Canal Street, sources said.

The MTA shut off the power to the tracks and suspended service on both uptown and downtown C and E trains.

An MTA spokesman said more than a 100 trains were delayed by the escaped cat.

A police officer rescued the cat from the roadbed, sources said.
