ART: Enlightening sculpture garden stroll

WHAT You can take a walk through Nassau County Museum of Art's impressive Sculpture Garden anytime. But on the Spring Sculpture Stroll, led by Jean Henning, the museum's senior educator, you'll learn about the stories behind these monumental works and the artists who created them. Among the artists is Jim Dine with his patina-enhanced "Mountains in the Distance," in which he places the Venus de Milo on her side with mountains in the background. (Dine's art also dominates the indoor galleries with more sculptures and his portfolio of Pinocchio illustrations. Arrive early -- the museum closes at 4:45 p.m. -- to see both.)

WHEN | WHERE 5:30 p.m. May 23, Nassau County Museum of Art, 1 Museum Dr., Roslyn Harbor; meet at the Art School, first building on the left as you enter the museum grounds.
