Hempstead Village police department officials along with AAA New York warn motorists to be extra careful as thousands of local youngsters return to school.
Colorful “School’s Open — Drive Carefully” posters will be mounted throughout the village as part of the AAA’s 68th annual campaign to prevent injuries and deaths among children of elementary school age.
“The help that we get from our club-area police departments adds to the effectiveness of our ‘School’s Open’ campaign,” said Donna Galasso, assistant director of AAA’s Traffic Safety unit, thanking police Chief Michael McGowan and police Officers Earl Dean and Vincent LoBosco.
Galasso reminds drivers and bicyclists to be cautious in school areas and to keep their speed at or below posted limits. Also to be prepared to stop, on both sides of the street, for school buses with flashing red lights and stop arms, as required by New York State law.
