The Cleveland Cavaliers have made the first big move of the new NBA year, agreeing to terms with Kyrie Irving on a five-year contract extension.

Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert tweeted the agreement early yesterday morning, just a couple of hours after the market opened. Gilbert did not announce the terms of the deal, but several outlets reported that it was a maximum deal worth about $90 million.

Irving was the No. 1 overall pick in 2011. He averaged 20.8 points and 6.1 assists in 71 games for the Cavs last season. He is a two-time All-Star and was named the game's MVP last season.

Irving tweeted that he's "super excited" and "blessed" to be part of the organization for the long term.

Kellogg leaves Pacers

Clark Kellogg is leaving the Indianapolis Pacers after being with the team 32 years as a player, broadcaster and most recently as vice president for player relations.

Kellogg was a first-round draft pick by the Pacers out of Ohio State in 1982 and he played five seasons before he was forced to retire because of a knee injury.

He then worked as a radio and TV analyst for the Pacers until being named vice president for player relations in 2010. The team issued a release with Kellogg -- who also is an analyst and a commentator for CBS during March Madness -- saying it was time to move on and that he has no regrets.

Reports: Meeks, Gortat signA person familiar with the situation says the Detroit Pistons have agreed to a two-year, $19.5 million deal with shooting guard Jodie Meeks. The 6-4 Meeks averaged a career-high 15.7 points and scored a team-high 1,209 points last season for the Los Angeles Lakers . . . A person familiar with the deal says center Marcin Gortat has agreed to a five-year, $60 million contract to remain with the Washington Wizards. Shortly afterward, Gortat tweeted: "I'm proud to say Washington will be my home." -- AP
