Ceparano's no-hitter leads Hills East
Mike Ceparano tossed a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts and three walks for Half Hollow Hills East on Friday in a 3-0 win over Whitman in Suffolk League III baseball.
It is the first no-hitter for Hills East (4-8) since 2008, coach Tim Belz told Newsday. Mike Parziale went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI and Louis Sileno added two hits and two RBIs.
Half Hollow Hills West 3, North Babylon 2: Luke Stampfl hit a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning to win it for Hills West (8-3) in League IV.West Babylon 6, Riverhead 5: Gio Stillone drove in Jordan Goldman with a single in the bottom of the seventh to win it for West Babylon (7-4) in League IV. Stillone's RBI capped a four-run seventh as West Babylon erased a 5-2 deficit for West Babylon (7-4) in League IV.
Pierson/Bridgehampton 3, Southold 0: Colman Vila struck out 14 in a three-hitter for Pierson/Bridgehampton (10-0) in League IX. Sean Hartnett added two hits and two RBIs and Tim Markowski went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Freeport 6, Oceanside 3: Julio Soto went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and Patrick Mars went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to pace Freeport (2-4) in Nassau Conference AA-I.SOFTBALL
MacArthur 5, Oceanside 3: Briana Lombardo's two-out triple in the top of the seventh inning gave MacArthur (6-1) a 4-3 lead in Nassau Conference AA-I. Kristin Daly drove in Krissy Gay with a double in the top of the sixth to tie the score at 3 for MacArthur.
Locust Valley 8, Lynbrook 5: Lauren Sabatino went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Nicole Rozzo's bases-loaded double in the bottom of the sixth put Locust Valley (5-2) ahead 8-5 in Conference ABC-IV.
Half Hollow Hills West 5, Smithtown East 2: Jessica Kleet beat out a fielder's choice at home in the top of the eighth to give Hills West (7-1) a 3-2 lead in a Suffolk League III/IV crossover. Francesca Casalino struck out 17 in a three-hitter to get the win.
St. Anthony's 11, St. Dominic 0: Michelle Carbone threw a one-hitter with a walk and four strikeouts and had a grand slam and six RBIs for the Friars (9-2) in CHSAA. Christina Martinez went 2-3 with two RBIs.
Kellenberg 1, Our Lady of Mercy 0: Allie Pisciotta hit a solo home run in the bottom of fourth inning to lift Kellenberg (11-0) in CHSAA. Susan Pardo allowed one hit in five innings, striking out 12 and walked two.
