A dogwood tree will be planted in an East Northport park Thursday in memory of a mother and son who were killed one year ago.
The tree-planting ceremony, which begins at 10 a.m. at John Walsh Park, memorializes Ann Pabo, who was 47, and her 13-year-old son Connele Pabo on the anniversary of their deaths.
Police determined that the boy’s father, 42-year-old Scott Maxwell of East Northport, had killed the two before committing suicide by lying down in front of a Long Island Rail Road train.
The tree was donated by Decker’s Nursery in Greenlawn. The ceremony marks one of many community memorials honoring the slain mother and son.
East Northport Middle School Principal Joanne Kroon said a set of bike racks were dedicated last month to Connele, who had been in sixth grade at the school. And in September, a plaque will be unveiled dedicating the playground at John Walsh Park to the Pabos.
