Charles helps North Babylon to boys track title

It was a long time coming for the North Babylon boys track team.
Paced by three individual winners yesterday, the Bulldogs won the Suffolk Division II championship for the first time since 1995.
Senior sprinter Berfrantz Charles led the way with a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash in 22.11 seconds and the long jump (22 feet, 11 inches).
"We won our league and now the division . . . It was a great way to cap a season," said North Babylon coach Tom Duffy.
Other North Babylon standouts include George Erazo, who took first in the 400 (49.04) and Marvin Mandat with a second-place finish in the 110 hurdles (14.74).
Shaun Blackman was second in the discus with a throw of 153 feet, while James Ward took second in the 3,200 (9:46.98) to lead the Bulldogs.
Other Division II standouts include Kings Park's Joe Livote with a first-place finish in the 3,200 (9:46.28), Riverhead's Mike Smith, who took first in the discus (155-8) and Copiague's Tyrek English in the triple jump (47-71/2).
Bellport's Jaquan Holland won the Division II 100 (10.6) and Greg Perrier of Half Hollow Hills East took the 800 (1:56.09).
In Division I, Longwood had a number of individual winners, including Jimmy Denis in the discus (145-2) and Justin Williams in the triple jump (49-7).
In other Division I events, Connetquot's Zach Krause won the 3,200 in 9:32.69, while Bay Shore's Mike Mauro took the 800 (1:58.8).
It was a big day for Bayport-Blue Point in Division III.
Dan Denis was a double winner taking first in the 800 (1:56.76) and the 3,200 (9:46.76).
Mario Buscemi (1:57.7) took second in the 800, while Connor Crowley finished second to Denis in the 3,200 (9:47.49) for BBP.
Amityville's Victor Drew won the Division III triple jump in 46-21/2, while his teammate Christopher Allen won the discus (137-8).
