Chase advisers to meet struggling borrowers

Chase Bank loan advisers will be available Saturday to help struggling homeowners find the best solution to stay in their homes.

More than a dozen loan advisers will assist borrowers who have a Chase or EMC mortgage from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Marriott Uniondale, Grand Ballroom, 101 James Doolittle Blvd. No appointments are necessary and free parking will be available on-site.

Help will be available for homeowners seeking to apply for a mortgage modification as well as for homeowners who have not fallen behind on their mortgage but who are struggling to make payments.

The Villages of Hempstead and Freeport recently closed their accounts with Chase in protest of the bank’s mortgage modification practices. The action was part of a statewide campaign by New York Communities for Change to get municipalities to close bank accounts with Chase.

Asked if the mortgage counseling grew out of the villages’ actions, a Chase spokesman said: “We are working with the offices of both the Freeport mayor and the Village of Hempstead mayor to help Chase customers in their communities.”
