In celebration of Thanksgiving Tuesday, kindergarten students at Wantagh Elementary School earlier this week studied pilgrims and American Indians and used a traditional recipe to whip up their own batches of butter.

Because Hanukkah falls during this traditional American holiday, for the first time since 1888, the students also discussed the meaning behind the Jewish holiday and spread their newly made butter on matzo.

The students made the butter using heavy cream, salt and mixed the ingredients with marbles in a jar, shaking vigorously, to create a creamy spread, much like the butter the pilgrims made.
