Normally the Easter Bunny would look at Saturday’s weather and crawl back in his hole.
But Peter Cottontail braved the elements at Marjorie Post-Massapequa Community Park for the Town of Oyster Bay’s inaugural Eggstravaganza. The event brought joy to hundreds of children-turned-Popsicles despite brisk temperatures and an angry-looking sky.
“I don’t let the weather stop me from getting my daughter out of the house,” said Irene Robertson of Massapequa. “Last year we went to a different one. It wasn’t very good, it wasn’t managed well. This one is much better.”
An Easter egg hunt in hay, bouncy rides, inflatable slides, a DJ and a petting zoo were set up on the park lawn, and Oyster Bay dilettantes like Town Supervisor John Venditto and Councilwoman Rebecca Alesia joined in the festivities to say hello to local parents and children.
“This is really a very special day in the Town of Oyster Bay,” Venditto said. “Even though it doesn’t feel like spring, the mood is really a very festive springtime mood. This is about getting people out of their house, away from their computer... and hopefully getting them involved in the future of this town.”
