Christian Siriano chats about new Nolita store
BY JULIE GORDON
Christian Siriano has set up shop in New York.
The Season 4 "Project Runway" winner has joined Nolita's bustling shopping scene with a 1,000-square-foot boutique -- the designer's first standalone store -- selling a mix of his eye-catching red-carpet ready gowns and pieces at more affordable prices.
Think separates for $98 to $400, a bevy of accessories under $100, dresses starting at $150 and home items, including gorgeous candles for less than $50, created exclusively for the Elizabeth Street shop. Also available: Killer heels from Siriano's low-priced shoe line for Payless ... and the aforementioned couture dresses, which have been worn by everyone from Rihanna to Christina Ricci.
What does it mean to you to have a store in NYC? It is a dream I have had for a very long time, so I'm very excited to launch in such an inspiring city. This is a test store that will hopefully turn into many more retail projects in the future.
Why did you choose Nolita?
I wanted a place where we would gain traffic from tourists, new clients, downtown girls, fashionistas and all the in-between.
What types of pieces will customers see at the store?
We have accessories only seen on the runway, blouses, jackets and dresses sold at an obtainable price for a diverse customer,
and some very exciting home items that I created to make my client feel at home when she is shopping.
How does the store scream Christian Siriano? The clothing is dramatic but wearable. The decor is dark and luxurious but still feels young and cool.
What items should be on every woman's fall shopping list?
A cool leather jacket, a great black dress in an interesting fabric and a sexy single-sole pump.
