CHSAA/Independent Top 5 (as of April 22)

1. St. Anthony's (7-1)
The Friars lost to Baltimore's Bryn Mawr, 15-7, on Saturday in the New York-Maryland Challenge. They bounced back on Sunday with a 13-3 win over John Carroll (Md.) in which Darcy Messina and Annie Heagerty each scored three goals and Tori Holland made 13 saves. St. Anthony's has another tough week ahead, facing Sacred Heart and Garden City.

(Useless note: Bryn Mawr's team name is the Mawrtians. Like Martians, but not. C'mon. Great team, horrible name. Laura and I agreed they should be the Knights. "The Knights of Bryn Mawr" would just sound right. If they eventually adopt that name, you'll know where it came from. And we'll expect royalties.) 

2. Sacred Heart (10-0)
The Spartans had a busy and productive week. They followed up the Florida sweep with league wins over Kellenberg, St. John the Baptist and Holy Trinity. Becky Conto racked up 18 points in the three games. Sacred Heart is now ranked 13th in the LaxPower and ESPN Rise polls.

3. Kellenberg (4-4)
The Firebirds took their lumps against the CHSAA's best last week, dropping games to Sacred Heart and St. Anthony's. They'll get some credit for keeping it close with Sacred Heart in a 17-14 loss. Michelle Goss and Sarah Croutier each scored four goals in that defeat.

4. St. John the Baptist (3-3)
They rebound from a tough loss to Sacred Heart with Saturday's 20-10 win over Plainview JFK in non-league. Kaitlyn Montalbano had four goals and four assists, and sophomore Morgan Jaycox had three goals and a career-high eight assists (Morgan's older sister, Danielle, had two assists in Adelphi's 20-11 win over Bentley on Saturday).

5. Long Island Lutheran (6-1)
The Crusaders walloped another IPPSAL opponent, beating Marymount 16-2 on Saturday. Carolyn Dottino had four goals and three assists, and the Sinacori twins, Danielle and Nicole, each added three goals and two assists.
