Chuck E. Cheese seeks to expand

The Oyster Bay Town Board held a hearing Tuesday on the proposed expansion of the Chuck E. Cheese franchise on the southeast corner of Old Country Road and Broadway in Hicksville.
The property owner, Delco Development Co. of Hicksville, and lessee CEC Entertainment Inc. are asking the town to modify an existing special-use permit and restrictive covenants to increase the permitted legal occupancy from 428 to 501.
The attorney for the applicant, Anthony Cincotta of Woodbury, said the existing restaurant occupies 10,725 square feet of a 14,441-square-foot building that it shared with a Blockbuster video store. Now that the video store is vacant, the restaurant operator wants to expand into 3,700 square feet of that space, filling most of the building.
“It would not change the nature of the corner,” Cincotta said.
No other speakers addressed the board on the application.
The board reserved decision but indicated it probably will approve the application.
Town Supervisor John Venditto said, “They have been a good tenant. We certainly don’t need a vacant storefront. It sounds like you’re taking a good use and making it better.
