Ciara McCullagh carrying NHP
New Hyde Park has visions of surprising some teams in the Nassau Class A playoffs because of Ciara McCullagh. The 6-2 senior center is averaging 19.9 points and 12 rebounds for New Hyde Park (7-5).
“She’s been carrying us,” New Hyde Park coach Hughie Flaherty said. “She’s been doing it all. She’s very athletic, quick, and strong.”
Her versatility makes her tough to defend. She will often grab a rebound, throw an outlet pass and be one of the first down the court ready to get involved in the offense. McCullagh has a good outside shot, but hasn’t used it much this season since no one has stopped her inside. She has yet to decide on a college and is getting some Division I interest.
