Cineastes can breathe easy. The venerable Cinema Arts Centre on Park Avenue in Huntington will continue to offer its brand of entertainment through 2029.

The town board last week voted to extend the lease of the popular center, which offers independent and international films for entertainment and educational purposes.

The independent theater has been in its current location since May 1991. The current lease runs through April 2019 but the operators asked that it be extended an additional 10 years. The extension commences from the expiration of the current lease in 2019, with an option for 10 additional years until 2039. Currently the annual rent is $27,504.60. The operators will pay an annual 5 percent rent increase.

“The Cinema Arts Centre is a jewel for our town and I am thrilled that they will be staying with us for years to come and look forward to many more evenings there,” town board Member Susan Berland said.

She said the theater is an integral part of the community and has donated the use of its facility to numerous groups for fundraising events.

“They are wonderful participants with the town. It’s a great thing the town can now turn around and support them.” she said.
