City weekend: Cowpokes, comedy and Cafe Carlyle

The holiday shoppers, New Year's revelers and tourists have all gone home, but there's still plenty to do in New York this weekend. Some highlights:

WHAT The cowboys are coming. Madison Square Garden transforms into a weekend-long rodeo with the Built Ford Tough series, featuring 40 of the world's top bull riders. 2008 World Champion Guilherme Marchi of Brazil seeks to defend his title, but former champ J.B. Mauney of North Carolina will give him a run for his money.

WHAT The host of "The D.L. Hughley Morning Show" weekdays on KISS FM and former writer-producer-star of the sitcom "The Hughleys" brings his stand-up act to Carolines. Expect some Tiger Woods jokes from this "original King of Comedy."

ELAINE STRITCH

WHAT Forty years ago, in the Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim's "Company," she belted out "The Ladies Who Lunch" - a lacerating portrait of moneyed New York women in the era before "Real Housewives." Now she's settling into the Cafe Carlyle for a monthlong residency dedicated to the Sondheim songbook. She's pushing 85, but that voice is still a force of nature.
