Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Jane Bonner will attend the Sound Beach Civic Association meeting Monday night to discuss an application to build 15 condominiums on a parcel of wooded, beachfront land east of Scott's Beach.

To the dismay of some local residents, the Brookhaven Town Planning Board recently approved the application for the Village on the Sound development without seeking public input. But Bonner said the application did not require a public hearing because it was a “readoption” of an application that was first approved in 1995.

Bonner said the town has made offers to buy the land from the owner in the past but that the owner was not willing to accept anything below $8 million – too expensive for the town’s taste.

Bonner, who will be joined by Martin Haley, a member of the town’s building department, said she understands the community’s desire to keep the parcel as open space.

The meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Sound Beach Fire Department.
