Civics education needed more than ever
Regarding the op-ed by Andrea Libresco ["These 'reforms' wound democracy," May 6], I could not agree with her more. I'm often dismayed at the lack of civic knowledge, which is especially conspicuous on the Internet.
An example is the email that has been circulating for years called the Congressional Reform Act, which makes a case for congressional term limits. It is filled with inaccuracies that can easily be researched. With a strong social studies curriculum, the skills to know the facts or research the facts could be emphasized.
In this era of polarized politics on important issues that will affect our everyday lives, the ability to ascertain facts can lead to informed, educated decisions at our polling booths and beyond.
