Regarding the John J. Foley nursing home ["Lawmakers OK sale of Foley nursing home," News, March 5]: Over the past three years, I have seen a decline in the cleanliness and staffing of the facility. This has resulted from the fear of closure, with some valuable employees abandoning an apparently sinking ship. However, my sister, a longtime resident, and her fellow residents want to continue to live there.

For these people, it is not like being in a hospital. It is their home. The talk of closing this facility is very upsetting because the residents would be separated from the people who have effectively become their family. (The sale agreement must clear some legal hurdles.)

People in far better condition, physically and emotionally, would be devastated to be moved. It is unfair to ignore the emotional impact on residents in the debate.
