The Hicksville Comets are skyrocketing up the Conference I standings behind shooting stars Sal Geneva and Joey Leonard.
They have won five straight in the conference after Wednesday's upset at first-place Massapequa. Geneva scored on an assist from Leonard (pictured, left) 3:14 into overtime for the 8-7 win after trailing by four in the fourth quarter.
The Comets won this matchup for the first time in the six-year history of the Walker Cup, the trophy awarded to the winner of the annual Hicksville-Massapequa clash. The trophy is named after the late Oyster Bay politician John Walker.
It was the fourth one-goal game for Hicksville this season, but during their conference winning streak, they have won by an average of nearly seven goals per game. In those five games, Geneva has 15 goals and eight assists, and Leonard has 10 goals and 15 assists.
The Comets fell to 10-3 after a non-league loss to Wantagh on Saturday, but remain one game behind Massapequa for first place in Conference I at 6-2.
