The Commack school district last week announced it would accept proposals for the future of a historic farm the district owns.

District Superintendent Donald James made the announcement at the district's school board meeting Thursday night, which had been postponed from Tuesday due to widespread power outages after Sunday’s storm.

The request for proposals requires those who are interested to provide concrete plans for the Marion Carll farm — a historic farm that Marion Carll left to the district with the proviso that it be used as a historical museum and educational center. The proposals must specify the source of funding.

Proposals are due by 11 a.m.  Nov. 8, and James said voters would likely choose from a selection of them in February.

Last year, Westbury developer Holiday Organization proposed rehabilitating the historic structures on the farm and building homes on the rest of the nine-acre property; that proposal was rejected by voters.

James said the request for proposals packet can be found on the district’s website, commackschools.org.
