Common Core math tests start

The Common Core math tests began Wednesday, and many students have opted out of the exam.

The math tests are given to kids in third through eighth grade.

When the English tests were given earlier this month, as many as 15,000 Long Island students opted out.

The state recently banned the standardized tests from being part of a student's permanent record.
