Community cleanups in Glen Cove, Syosset
A pair of local community cleanup efforts will be held Saturday.
In Glen Cove, Mill Pond, the centerpiece of a new city park being built west of downtown, is one of the sites of Keep America Beautiful's 2011 Great American Cleanup. Volunteers and sponsors should contact the Beautification Commission office at 516-676-5188.
Volunteers will meet at the pond at 9:30 a.m. The Matinecock Rod and Gun Club will provide lunch afterward for volunteers. The rain date is May 21.
The 10th annual Syosset Clean-Up Day kicks off at 10 a.m. at the Dunkin’ Donuts, 59 Jackson Ave., near the railroad station.
The Syosset Fire Department is helping with logistics, and the Oyster Bay Town Public Works Department will provide gloves and other equipment and remove trash collected. The event is organized by Town Councilman Chris Coschignano.
Anyone interested in volunteering should call 516-624-6309.
