Con Edison offering app to control air conditioning
New Yorkers that forgot to turn off the air conditioner before leaving or want to return home to a cool place will no longer need to keep the air on all day.
Con Edison is letting residents with a room unit or central A/C apply for equipment that lets people control their air conditioner and the temperature from a smartphone or web browser. The utility company, however, could control the units and turn them on and off when demand for electricity is high. Users can still override Con Edison's adjustments. Those who use their devices will get a $25 gift card or check.
