Condemned Port Jefferson Station home razed in blight fight

Brookhaven Town has knocked down another condemned home in its crack down on blight.

The Port Jefferson Station residence at 5 Parnet Court had been vacant since June of 2012 when a fire severely damaged the home, town officials said.

"The residents in this neighborhood have suffered long enough. By demolishing this house, we have made an immediate impact on their quality of life," Supervisor Edward P. Romaine said in a statement.

The damaged structure was torn down on Oct. 1 under Chapter 73 of Brookhaven Town Code, which allows for the demolishing of an unsafe structure.

Brookhaven has knocked down several homes this year as part of a campaign against eyesores and blight.

The latest was the second vacant house demolished as part of Romaine's "Dirty Dozen," a list of homes the town has targeted for demolition due to their dangerous nature.

The targeted houses have received numerous violations from the town's building and law departments and are a detriment to the community, town officials said.
