CopA Stamford, Conn., police officer from Long Island resigned on Friday after new allegations surfaced that he showed cell phone pictures of his genitals to women he had stopped for traffic violations.

Officer Paul Mabey, 41, a 15-year veteran, quit as the Stamford police internal affairs unit filed additional criminal charges against him. The resignation came after a meeting with the union that represents police officers, said Gene Riccio, the officer's Bridgeport, Conn., attorney.

A 26-year-old woman sent an e-mail to the Stamford Police Department, The Stamford Advocate newspaper and the American Civil Liberties Union. The e-mail accused the officer of displaying a photo of his genitals after Mabey stopped her during a seat belt enforcement check. The woman said she rebuffed Mabey's sexual advances, Riccio said.

Mabey was suspended in late May and a criminal charge of disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor, was filed against him on June 2. Riccio confirmed that two additional counts of disorderly conduct were filed against Mabey on Friday resulting from complaints about his allegedly showing photos of male genitalia to women he'd stopped.

"I'm not at liberty to discuss the facts of the case," Riccio said. "He did tender his resignation [Friday]."

Mabey was released on his own recognizance and has a court appearance scheduled for July 8.

Under Connecticut law, a minor misdemeanor has a maximum penalty of three months in prison and up to a $500 fine.
