Consumer Reports rates everything, including pasta sauce, and found in a blind taste test that the marinara served up at Vincent's Clam Bar in Carle Place was No. 3, right behind Giada De Laurentiis' offering and that of Mario Batali.

Vincent's owner Bobby Marisi isn't clamming up about being No. 3. "We came out of nowhere," said Marisi, who along with his brother, Anthony Marisi, runs Vincent's on Old Country Road. Bobby Marisi said his sauce was entered into the Consumer Reports competition for the first time last year.

"We're a small company, fighting major players," he said, referring to the world-famous chef Batali. The competition was held late last year.

Consumer Reports said Vincent's offering was "very good," adding that it was "fresh-tasting, fairly well-balanced . . . an unusually bright red sauce with herbs and spices."

So what did Vincent's get from the ranking?

"Nothing really," Bobby Marisi said. "Bragging rights."
