Contracts awarded for Wyandanch revitalization project

The Town of Babylon has approved contracts and increased the amount paid to several companies working on a revitalization effort in Wyandanch.

At a board meeting this week, the town approved changing work orders for South Shore Electric Inc. of West Babylon, Bove Industries Inc. of East Setauket, Posillico Civil Inc. of Farmingdale and Industrial Mechanical & Controls Inc. of North Merrick. The total increase is $326,542. Of that amount, $282,441 is for work related to the sewer line being constructed down Straight Path in Wyandanch, with the remaining $44,101 for work related to connecting a leachate-removal system being constructed at the town’s ashfill in West Babylon. The entire sewer line, including the leachate-removal portion, is estimated to cost about $15 million and is due to be completed in the coming months.

The work is being done as part of the town’s Wyandanch Rising project, a massive public-private effort to revitalize the hamlet’s downtown.

At the meeting, the town also approved several consulting contracts for work related to Wyandanch Rising: Olin Studios of Philadelphia, $252,880; Torti Gallas & Partners of Silver Spring, Md., $211,093; Cashin Associates of Hauppauge, $28,050; and Keller Sandgren Associates of Amityville, $5,000.
