Glen Cove has approved a new caterer-restaurant operator at the city-run golf course, an agreement that includes a pledge from the tenant to make $51,000 of facility improvements.

At a special meeting Tuesday, the city council accepted JS Corp.’s proposal for a five-year lease to run the restaurant with a monthly rent of roughly $6,000. JS Corp. owner Jamie Scott also runs Mill Creek Tavern in Bayville.

The previous operator of the course restaurant died last year, officials said, and his family did not want to continue the contract.

Also Tuesday, the council awarded a $37,264 bid for a company to remove septic tanks from the course’s old cesspool system and a $13,000-per-year contract for golf cart maintenance.

The municipal golf course on Lattingtown Road has a 2011 budget of $1.3 million and is estimated to bring $1.2 million in fees and membership revenues.
