Convoy of Hope to help needy
Semitrailers from Long Island Convoy of Hope will be rolling into Mitchel Field Athletic Complex on Saturday
The Valley Stream-based organization is partnering with 40 churches on Long Island, as well as area businesses and agencies, and will have hundreds of volunteers on hand. The event will start at the complex on 1 Charles Lindbergh Blvd. at 10 a.m., rain or shine.
Attendees will receive free groceries, shoes, health services, dental cleaning, haircuts, family portraits, community services, prayer, live entertainment, lunch, games and activities for children. There also will be a job fair, organizers said.
Convoy of Hope, a national faith-based nonprofit, is one of the largest humanitarian relief organizations in the United States. In the past 15 years, Convoy of Hope has been active in 46 states and more than 109 countries providing disaster response, conducting community events, and directing nutritional programs and sustainability projects.
Volunteers are still needed to help with health screens and to give haircuts. For more information, visit li.convoyofhope.org or call 516-561-6150.
