Copiague skateboard park reopens after repairs
Babylon Town yesterday reopened Tanner Park Skateboard Park, closed three years ago after officials said heavy use and rough weather necessitated repairs.
More than a dozen ramps, quarter pipes and grind rails were fixed and resurfaced. “It looks awesome,” Councilman Tony Martinez said after the opening ceremony. “We’ll have about 50 to 60 kids there every afternoon after school, which is just what we wanted.
If they’re not on the streets, they’re not risking getting hit by a car.”
Anyone can use the skate park, he said, but protective gear is strongly recommended.
Money for the $90,000 restoration came from a fishing pier repair project that cost less than expected.
