A pedestrian was assaulted Saturday night by an armed man who fired shots at him on a Uniondale street, Nassau County police said.

Police said the victim, 21, was walking on Ruxton Street near Gerald Street at 10:48 p.m. when he saw a man sitting in a gray Chevrolet.

The man in the car got out and asked the victim to come to him, police said. The victim, fearing for his safety, told the man that he had no property with him, according to police.

The man then took out a silver handgun and hit the victim in the face with his hand, after which the victim fled, police said. The gunman fired several shots from the gun before driving east on Ruxton Street, police said.

No one was injured, and police said the gunman did not get any property from the victim.

The gunman was described as between 20 and 24 years old, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, khaki pants and a blue New York Yankees cap. The car was possibly an Impala, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about this case to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
