Cops still seek missing mom of suspected killer
The whereabouts is still a mystery of an Elmont woman who went missing the day a son and husband were found shot to death in the family home. The couple's younger son is suspect in the deaths. To locate the woman, Rose Marise Ormejuste, 65, Nassau police have deployed a search helicopter, alerted patrol officers and programmed countywide license plate scanners to find a family car that also went missing around the time of her disappearance.
Both were last seen on Monday, police and the family say.
Her son, Dario Ormejuste, 24, is suspected in the men's deaths, and police detectives consider his mother's disappearance suspicious.
The uncertainty of Rose Ormejuste's whereabouts have complicated funeral arrangements for the slain men, said the family - unsure whether the matriarch will be found alive and be able to attend the funeral or whether she too must be mourned.
Dario Ormejuste has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the shooting deaths of his father, Bob Ormejuste, 65, and his older brother, Guerby Ormejuste, 30. A judge on Thursday ordered Dario Ormejuste jailed without bail.
Police describe the missing car as a gray or silver 1998 Lexus 300 sedan with the license plates CEF-8130. The car was seen at the family home, 117-40 238th St. The car was usually driven by Guerby Ormejuste, who was a New York City correction officer assigned to the Rikers Island jail complex.
Court papers accuse the younger brother of shooting the men on Monday. But their bodies weren't found until Wednesday, after a relative went to the 238th Street house because Guerby Ormejuste hadn't shown up to work at Rikers Island for two days.
Later that morning, police made the grisly discovery, in the basement and the kitchen. Dario Ormejuste was detained when he emerged from the home to smoke a cigarette.
Under the circumstances, the family worries that Rose Ormejuste may have met harm as well.
She is due to retire next month from her job as a nurse's aide at a Manhattan nursing home, the family said.
