Nassau and Suffolk counties and five Long Island towns are among the recipients of a prestigious excellence in financial reporting award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, the organization announced.

The counties, the towns of Brookhaven, Hempstead, Huntington, North Hempstead and Oyster Bay, and the villages of Rockville Centre and Garden City are the Long Island municipal recipients of the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for fiscal year 2010.

The certificate program judges applicants’ financial reports on transparency and full disclosure.

Also on the list of 62 New York State honorees are the Water Authority of Western Nassau County, the Glen Cove Community Development Agency and the Glen Cove Industrial Development Agency.
