County funds for N. Amityville's downtown?
The Town of Babylon is applying for funding from Suffolk County for downtown improvements in North Amityville.
The town is seeking $35,700 to make pedestrian safety improvements, including installation of pedestrian signals, countdown timers and speed radars at the intersection of Great Neck Road and Albany Avenue. The money would come from the county’s downtown revitalization program.
Babylon Town had previously received $67,000 from the county for decorative lighting fixtures at Deer Park Avenue and Phelps Lane in North Babylon and $56,000 for improvements in Copiague’s Gateway Park. Improvements at the park, at Great Neck Road and Dixon Avenue, include brick walkways, granite benches and plantings.
The overall cost of the two projects was $260,000 for North Babylon and $237,000 for Copiague, town spokesman Tim Ruggeri said.
