The state Fraternal Order of Court Officers Monday donated $1,000 for holiday food to the Interfaith Nutrition Network at INN’s offices in Hempstead.

“We had read about the shortage of food for the needy in the local daily newspaper on the weekend and just thought this would be a good thing for our donation this year,” said Joe Cannella, of Massapequa Park, president of the court officers group that began in Nassau County.

Jean Kelley, the INN’s executive director, said: “We’re just touched by this group’s continued effort and thoughtfulness, which helps inspire us to fulfill our mission to people who are hungry and homeless.”

The officers raised the money by selling candy, mostly to workers in the District Court in Hempstead, Cannella said.
