The balloons Kyle Biggers wore in his hair Friday were the least unique facet of his wardrobe.

He joined the other members of the Sachem High School East boys volleyball team in stealing the show at the homecoming pep rally by sporting outfits more like what the girls volleyball team would sport to go into a match.

Small spandex shorts and facial expressions that would make RuPaul proud were the uniform. When they lined up in the center of gymnasium floor, one of the boys ran behind the whole team, slapping the last teammate on the behind for added measure.

The students responded with cheers and loud screams. It’s a lot easier to have homecoming fun when the football team is winning. After a tough 2013 campaign, the Arrows have already doubled their win total from last season.

“Our chemistry this year is unbreakable,” said senior football player Sean Gallagher, 17, who stood in the center of the gym and thanked the students for their support. “This pep rally and homecoming gives the football team the perfect opportunity to show everyone we are dedicated and there is a brotherhood.”

Gallagher said he greatly enjoyed the school’s Spirit Week, with Pop Culture day being his favorite.

“I dressed as a banana,” Gallagher said. “My friend Jake gave me the banana costume. I loved that day because you can do whatever and be crazy,” he said.

The different themes included Marvel Comics, ’Tis the Season, Moment in Time, Pop Culture and School Spirit.

“I dressed up as Rosie the Riveter on Pop Culture day, said junior Joshua Brzoza, 16. “And the pep rally gives us the chance to show support for our sports teams and cheer for them. I love it.”
