Cupcake raffle to aid food pantry, student

The Kings Park farmers market on Sunday will add cupcakes to its assortment of fruits and vegetables.

Visitors to the weekly market will have a chance to win a year’s supply of cupcakes in a raffle to raise money for a food pantry and scholarship program.

The market, sponsored by the Kings Park Civic Association and Long Beach-based Friends and Farmers Inc., opens at 9 a.m. Sunday at Church Street and Route 25A; the raffle drawing is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kings Park and a scholarship fund for a graduating Kings Park High School senior. Last year’s raffle raised $600 for the pantry and about $500 for the scholarship.

The raffle winner will receive a package that includes gift cards for a year’s supply of cupcakes. The prize was arranged by Kings Park native Terence Noonan, producer and creator of the TLC cable television show “DC Cupcakes,” which focuses on the owners of Georgetown Cupcake, a Washington, D.C., pastry shop.
