Cutchogue library to get new summer look

The children's room at the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Library is getting a brighter look for summer.

The white walls above bookshelves in the modest rectangular room will soon exhibit the work of some of the area's local talent.

"I think we've got a family of artists here," said Mignon Osmer, a program coordinator at the library who was leading the children in their "Decorate the Library" program.

Osmer was referring to the Generosa family of Cutchogue - Grayson, 8, Jack, 7, Ford, 5, and Ellington, 2 - who all labored away silently Wednesday on their masterpieces.

Their father, Dan, said he brings the kids to the library at least twice a week throughout the summer for different programs, but they especially love to paint and to see their work hanging at the library.

"It's great because they can make a mess here and not at home," he said. "Although they still make a mess at home."

Osmer said the library hosts the program every summer and keeps the mural up until September.

Elian Cichanowicz, 7, of Cutchogue, painted a cat and his name in glitter.

Asked if having his artwork displayed on the wall would make him feel like a real artist, he said, "I already am."
