Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray, senior Councilman Anthony Santino and state Assemb. Brian Curran (R-Lynbrook) will host a free Internet Safety & Cyberbullying Seminar to help young residents navigate the web safely.

The meeting will be on Feb. 21, at 7 p.m., at Southside Middle School, 67 Hillside Ave., in Rockville Centre.

Internet safety expert Ron Gerber will make a presentation on the growing threat of cyberbullying — bullying someone through the phone, Internet or other electronic devices. Gerber will also offer general Internet safety tips and talk about the importance of reporting any attempted bullying and/or stalking, officials said.

“Research has shown that many children will be the victims of cyberbullying as early as elementary school and often continuing into high school,” Murray said in a statement. “In the age of the Internet, we must ensure that our kids are prepared for the many precarious situations in which they may find themselves online.”
