After David Robertson blew his first save of the season May 23 in Chicago, no one in the Yankees clubhouse expressed concern.

"Our bullpen's been great all year and David's been perfect," Derek Jeter said. "Those things happen. You don't want them to happen but they do happen, and it will happen again at some point."

It happened again yesterday.

Handed a one-run lead in the ninth, Robertson allowed a first-pitch leadoff homer to Josh Willingham, sparking a six-run inning that pushed the Twins past the Yankees, 7-2.

The comeback made a winner out of Phil Hughes in his return to the Bronx. The righthander, who signed a free-agent deal in the offseason with the Twins (26-28), allowed two runs and three hits over eight innings and retired the final 15 hitters he faced.

After fill-in starter Chase Whitley turned in his fourth straight solid start, one run over five innings, the bullpen took over.

Dellin Betances, who has hitters looking as if they'd rather be anywhere but at the plate facing his 97-mph fastball and knee-freezing curveball, struck out five of the six batters he faced before giving way to Adam Warren, who allowed a two-out double in the eighth but no runs.

Robertson, who started the season 9-for-9 in saves before Adam Dunn's two-run homer led the White Sox past the Yankees in Chicago, came on in the ninth and threw a first-pitch fastball that Willingham hammered for his third homer of the season.

The Twins would send 10 to the plate in the frame, one in which they scored six times, to send much of the crowd heading for the exits before the Yankees came to bat in the bottom half of the inning.

The Yanks play a makeup from April 30 against Seattle tonight.
