Plans by Riverhead Town to set up a closed-circuit video security system in its downtown business district parking lots have run into a snag, with several potential bidders telling the town they do not have enough technical data on existing fiber optic cables to properly come up with a bid on the planned work.
As a result, the town has extended the deadline to Jan. 21 for its request for proposals on installing the system.
At a town board meeting Dec. 17, members voted 4-0 to extend the deadline, after noting that numerous prospective bidders have said they need the additional information in order to submit a cost-effective and comprehensive bid to install the system.
