Developers have until June 30 to submit formal expressions of interest in the Ronkonkoma Long Island Rail Road train station project.

That’s the deadline for developers to submit their initial ideas, according to the Town of Brookhaven. The town’s planning department will then evaluate the applications and develop criteria for the special zoning, called form-based code, to be used in the development. The town would then issue a request for formal proposals.

The town anticipated renovating the Ronkonkoma LIRR station into a mixed-use development, with pedestrian-friendly retail and residential properties around the station and on 50 surrounding acres.

Representatives from about two dozen development companies have shown interest in the project in earlier presentations of the proposed hub.
