Students at Deer Park High School practiced for a pumpkin-chucking competition Tuesday. The students used a modern version of a trebuchet, a medieval machine that was once used in castle sieges.

The students compete every year in competitions for distance and accuracy. Many of these students have been on the team since seventh grade and are now seniors.

The students enjoy learning how to work together as a team. It teaches them about safety protocols, and how to help each other bring their individual strengths to the team, such as carpentry or troubleshooting.
