Three contenders for Suffolk’s 18th legislative district are expected to wage a floor flight Wednesday night when Suffolk Democrats hold their county convention, which is expected to nominate Babylon Supervisor Steve Bellone for county executive.

Dr. William Spencer, chairman of the Huntington Housing Authority; party fundraiser Steve Rosetti, a real estate businessman, and long-time Democratic activist James Kelly are vying for the nomination for the open seat now held by Legis. Jon Cooper (D-Lloyd Harbor), who cannot run again because of the county’s term limit law. No matter who wins the floor fight, party insiders say a September primary is possible.

The convention is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the IBEW Hall in Hauppauge.
