JETER'S LONG ROAD BACK
Oct. 13, 2012
Suffers what later is diagnosed as a fractured left ankle in 12th inning of ALCS Game 1 loss to the Tigers. After the game, the Yankees announce Jeter will miss the rest of the playoffs but will be ready to play by the start of spring training.
Oct. 20, 2012
Has surgery in Charlotte, N.C., to repair the fracture. Recovery is expected to take four to five months. Says GM Brian Cashman: "He'll be ready when he's ready."
Jan. 28, 2013
Works out in Tampa, his first session on a ballfield since surgery.

Starts at DH in a spring training game against the Braves. He smacks the first pitch he sees into leftfield for a single.

Jeter is scratched from the Yankees' lineup with what Joe Girardi terms a "cranky" left ankle. "Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope it's only a day or two," Girardi says.

Team announces Jeter has been diagnosed with a small crack in his surgically repaired left ankle and will be out until after the All-Star break.

Jeter begins his rehab assignment at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He plays shortstop and goes 0-for-2 with a walk.

The return of the Captain. In his first game in nine months, Jeter bats second, starts at DH and gets an infield hit. Goes 1-for-4, gets pinch-hit for in eighth inning and later says his right quadriceps "tightened up a little bit" in his third at-bat. An MRI is scheduled.
