Alex DeVries bowled a 300 for Islip, the first time an Islip girl has done it, according to coach Glenn Drago.

Islip won, 890-743, 980-679, 951-645, over Bay Shore.

"In practice I threw nothing but strikes, and I was like, 'All right this is good,' " DeVries said. "I knew after the seventh frame, it just felt like something was meant to be."

DeVries said the crowd cheered each strike, but was quiet while she set up for her approach. "Before I threw my last ball, I looked at my best friend and said, 'This one's for Larry [Vetro] and Jess [Atlas],' " she said about her former coaches of four years. "I threw the ball and it was a strike and I just felt so good, I shed a tear of happiness."

DeVries' 300 was the first of the series; she then had a 233 and 196. "It means a lot to me," she said about being part of Islip history. "I've been working for it my whole high school career in bowling."
